The burger at Alphy's Broiler in the Village of Arroyo Grande (CA) is at the pinnacle of my list for best burger - anywhere. They hand-grind the meat fresh everyday. The spices are perfect, the bun is toasted and has a gentle chewy texture that lets you know you have a bun. I never need to add condiments. The burger is served with lettuce, red onion, tomato and an aioli that looks a but like Thousand Island but is much tastier. It's a monster patty, cooked on a grill - and they know how to do a Medium Rare burger. My ONLY complaint is the lack of American Cheese as a choice. To me, it just isn't a Classic Burger without American Cheese. They do offer Cheddar, Jack and Bleu (I recommend the latter). NO FRIES at this place - but a generous portion of their house-made sweet cole slaw is actually better than fries.
